Christian Joseph Gilles Roy
RCAF Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship is named in honour of Christian Joseph Gilles Roy, a Royal Canadian Air Force veteran.

LCol (retd) Chris Roy held many important roles during his service in the RCAF.

From 1988 to 1992, he served as a CC-130 Hercules SAR navigator. Following instructional roles in Winnipeg and Trenton from 1992 to 1999, Chris served as an Advanced Tactical Airlift Transport (ATAT) navigator and supervisor from 1999 to 2007.

From 2007 to 2008, he served as the 8 Wing Deputy Operations Officer. During this time, he was also the Head of the Repatriation Program, based at 8 Wing Trenton, a role for which he was awarded a Chief of the Defence Staff Commendation in 2009.

Following staff college (JCSP) graduation in 2009, he was appointed Commanding Officer 426 Transport Training Squadron from 2009 to 2012. He then served as the 8 Wing Operations Officer from 2012 to 2014.

Following postings at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto and the RCAF Aerospace Warfare Centre in Trenton, Chris retired from the RCAF and sadly passed away, at the age of 64, from cancer on 14 August 2025. Chris will be sadly missed, but not forgotten, by his family and friends, especially his wife, Marie, and children, Alex and Audrey. In memory of our family member, friend and colleague. Rest in peace.
